What and who is 100 x pianist?

Who?

Sandra Roobaert, 3rd year bachelor student in Music, studying the piano with Frans Van Beveren at LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, Belgium, at the mature age of 48, which makes me a bit of an oddity. Offensive or interesting, depending on the eye of the beholder. Without any doubt: passionate about music.

What?

This is the plan: performing 100 times in the course of one year, for an audience of at least one person, and writing a blog about it. Why?

Because music is meant to be shared and not only to be studied in art school and private rooms.

Because the only way to become a pianist is by simply being one, instead of waiting until someone gives you permission or a degree.

Because it is a way to deal with self-doubt and stage fright.

Because it forces me to look for an audience outside of the typical concert settings.

Because every performance holds a potential for connection and interaction.

Because writing is just as much part of my nature as music is.

What can you expect? Given my classical education mostly classical music – Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Debussy, … I also play lighter music and own compositions with a rather classical twist.

‘100  x pianist’ is an initiative of the not for profit association Villa VanZelf, which in itself is a project in qualitative and sustainable living. The year started on 21st December 2015 with a living room concert in Christmas style.

I will be writing this blog alternately in English and in my native language Dutch. There are several reasons why I also write in English: in order to integrate at most my former life experiences and my competencies into my work (I got a degree in translation and interpreting at the age of 21), in order to reach a wider audience, in order to preserve and improve my writing skills in English.
